Well still free wine and pretzels on the flight, but $3.99 if you wanted to buy "throwaway earbuds"....which we forgot! Now if you wanted a good ol' Cup of Noodles, well you had to pay the price....pretty sure I just bought one for 87 cents at Walmart!
Nice way to dig into a good book! And Lisette and Shelly! First leg drug free! Woo hoo!
Lucy is having a great time, we so love the regular updates.
After what seemed like days.... but it really wasn't....we arrived in Lisbon Portugal about 11:40 am. I had heard lots about the long long lineups at the airport to get through customs due to a new EES (entry/exit) system, essentially to monitor and regulate the influx of unwanted visitors to the EU, but has been causing major delays and issues. All in all, the 2 hours it took us to get through Customs was better than the 3 & 4 hour delays I had heard of.
But we made it and since we were too early to check in to the room, we thought what better way to pass time than this... they love their pastries here.
Checked in to the room and for the life of us we could not figure out why we had no lights..so after a phone call down to the reception desk, we found out why! To save energy here, and to encourage guests to not leave lights on while away, you have to put your hotel card in a slot at the door! Voila lights!
Our room is a nice 5 minute walk to the water, and figured the best way to stay awake was to walk. We are both soooo tired with about 2 1\2 hours of sleep since we left, flying through 8 times zones and the time differences, I started the day with a "body battery of 5"....and 10 hours or so of awake time ahead of us...we are drained.
The sidewalks are all small chucks of white/beige rock, and some areas with designs, very pretty!
Enjoyed a beer down at the water, lots of outdoor restaurants/pubs. One thing on the menu that struck us aa odd was "toast", like 10 or more variations... and sure enough, one couple beside us, he had a special coffee, her a margarita and sharing toast... the other table, a group sharing a bottle of white wine... and toast!
And weiner dogs galore! They are the dogs of choice here in Portugal and all patio areas are dog friendly.
Lots of these large raised blocks as swimming/sunbathing areas all along the sea wall.
The grocery stores and gas stations are all small little places scattered in every neighborhood. Seems like every neighborhood has several within walking distance, no need to drive to get provisions.
And the wine and breads here are CHEAP! Easy to find a bottle for the equivalent or $2.50 cdn....we splurged and bought one for $2.99 euro so about $5.00 cdn!!!
Cheers and thankfully it's time to recharge for tomorrow! Phew.
