I awoke several times through the night, the sound of a storm with rain pouring off the tiled roof and the howling of the wind, mixed together with the thoughts of being so far from home made for a less than perfect sleep.
We are still not sure what the square toilets are about... last time we checked, nothing fits a square?
The hotel included a Continental Breakfast and to be honest, one of the best we have had. We were so fortunate to be one of the first down there to enjoy the abundance of food. Didn't take long for it to fill up though.
We ended up eating and drinking coffee for over an hour, fruit cups ( apparently I love Papaya now), yogurt, sliced meat & cheese, granola, bacon and eggs, pancakes and an abundance of baked goods!
After a slow start to the day we headed into Cascais, about a 10 minute drive.
No idea what they call this game here but looks like a good time! Its beach volleyball played with the feet, head, chest or whatever other body part, just no hands!
The cobbled streets wind in and out by the ocean, touristy nick-nack shops with the tell-tale middle eastern men standing outside trying to sell you their cheap branded merchandise, mixed in the expensive clothes, shoes and jewelery, and the odd McDonalds and Burger King!
Lots of narrow alleyways lined with tables of the outdoor eateries!
This is a white-floss silk tree, the fluffy pods were about the size of my open hand!
An abundance of bougainvillea arch over the narrow streets and climb the old walls. Such a gorgeous flower to have little to no scent.
The coast is lined with jagged cliffs along the ocean.
This is Boco do Inferno.
Another half hour or so, the final stretch was along a very narrow road that passes so close to the old crumbling village homes. We arrived at Cape Roca, the most western point of Continental Europe!
And along with the many cars of people, there were the tour busses of course...this one filled with Chinese tourists.
And because its a tourist place, you will find the little Portuguese lady working the Toilet Toll.... $0.50 euro for the loo 🚻
After driving through what felt like 100 roundabouts, we were back home enjoying vino on the terrace area overlooking......yes...a very busy and very small roundabout with 5 access points....we spent a few hours looking at all the different types of little cars, moped "Uber eats type drivers", bikes etc. Great way to chill and take in our surroundings!
Off to the Casino for a bit of entertainment, and to contribute a bit to the local economy. Little Pizza. Little wine and a little more walking....
Luckily this is not our car....
But unfortunately this is not our hotel...
And the daily Lucy update! She is never going to want to come home!
