Where else can she roll in dirt like this and not get in trouble for it....No longer a black dog!
Snuggling with someone else.....awe
Finally fueled up CeeCee, not perfect but managed to get $60 in her.....next time we'll try a fill up! Free TOILETS for the WIN!
Took the Toll road most of the way, so seeing as the car has a transponder, its going to be a bit of a surprise on the bill.
This is the most prominent tree here with red fluffy blooms
First stop was in Aveiro, the coastal area is adorned with these striped beach houses on the tourist streets...
And then the middle streets are where many of the locals lived, most of these homes are the traditional tiled ones, little ol' Portugese men and women chatting over coffee...
Amazing sandy beach...
Not sure if this is an annual sand moving or just because of the January storm but the diggers and movers were busy here.
Figured it was time for a little snack and seeing as we were at the ocean we figured "fish fingers" would hit the spot!
..... not fish at all.....I should have googled it....it was Cuttlefish.. (neither fish nor true shellfish) apparently tastes similar to squid but with a more tender, firm, and meaty texture.... and ugly as all heck!!! .......its was rubbery ...I took one bite, that was all i could do.....George ate about half, said the taste was not bad but the texture was odd...
The traditional, brightly painted boats in Aveiro, Portugal, are called Moliceiros. Known as the "Portuguese Venice," these were historically used to harvest seaweed for fertilizer.
And again winding tiled streets lined with shops and restaurants.
The weather turned out way better than expected so figured we better soak some sun in before it was gone.
Finally arrived in Porto, officially the Ancient, Ever Loyal and Undefeated City, it is the second largest in Portugal, after Lisbon.
I didn't really realize how close into the old town our next room was....found a spot across the street and thought ....oh oh.... what the heck did I book???
Old old old.... but once you walked up the stairs.... you could see into the secret garden....oh my! And this cat was sitting at the top of the stairs....unmoving... for a short minute I thought...crap, they stuffed the cat!!! But no....thank gosh, he was alive... just being a cat!
The place is amazing, used to be an old radio station, and before that she thought a boarding house for men working in the city. The room is small but nice.
But now the garden....it's spectacular. We figured many had courtyards and garden spaces but we had no idea this was hidden back there.
And up a winding rock staircase and an old tower was the view of the city!
Interesting to see the backs areas of all the other apartments and homes... and even a chicken house in the little blue shack.. .. and roosters wandering all over. Lots are crumbling and hardly look inhabited but they are.
